SOUTH BEND — The nonprofit Rebuilding Together St. Joseph County will launch its annual spring project as volunteers on April 15 and 29 make repairs worth more than $150,000 to 17 needy homes on the city’s west side.
Skilled trades will do their part April 15, while community volunteers come April 29 for general labor.
The repairs include roof, water heater and furnace replacements, along with general work such as painting and yard cleanup.
The 17 homes have already been selected, so applications are now closed. The program focuses on helping senior and disabled homeowners, who pay nothing for the work. The work area is bounded by Edison/Elwood roads and Lincoln Way to the north, Sample Street to the south, Mayflower Road to the west and Olive Street to the east.
About 300 unskilled volunteers are expected to work from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m. April 29. More are welcome. To help, visit rebuildingtogethersjc.org.
